LVC (vehicle rental with driver) drivers will demonstrate Monday morning in Brussels to denounce their change of status, official since the order of June 2022 but “without advantages, only constraints” according to them, the Belgian Association of Drivers said on Sunday. limousine drivers (ABCL). “This ordinance was supposed to unify the sector, but this is not the case,” laments the president of the federation, Fernando Redondo.
The LVC drivers, now called “street taxis” as opposed to classic “station” taxis, will gather at 8:15 a.m. at the Gare du Nord to then join the headquarters of Brussels Mobility, then the office of Brussels Minister-President Rudi Vervoort. The procession should disband shortly following 1:00 p.m., predicts the ABCL.
The demands are multiple. “The rise in fuel prices has destabilized the sector. We are therefore asking for a review of the minimum and maximum rates,” explains Mr. Redondo.
The latter then points to independent contracts that are too restrictive. “Today, employees must be included as directors of the company to work under independent status, whereas before they were simple service providers,” notes the president of the ABCL, adding that it is difficult in these conditions to “manage the instability of drivers, who move from one fleet to another”.
In addition to the conditions for transferring licenses, which also constitute a point of contention, LVC drivers will also request access to their own sites, from which station taxis benefit but from which they themselves are deprived. “With the Good Move plan, a race that previously took us 10 minutes now takes 30. However, the price of the race has remained the same. We therefore want the Minister-President to find solutions,” says Mr. Redondo.
The latter also denounces the “catastrophic” management of our files and the delays “of several months” to validate certain decisions (such as requests concerning a change of vehicle) by Brussels Mobility.
