The Brussels parliament took into urgent consideration two proposed ordinances tabled by the PS and Ecolo with a view to limiting the potential effects of the end of the extension of the blocking of the indexation of rents for energy-intensive housing and commercial spaces.
All Brussels landlords will be able to index their rents once more from October 14 in Brussels. In this case, parliament was seized of a proposed order from Martin Casier (PS), co-signed by an Ecolo elected official to prevent the owners of energy sieves who had been affected by the temporary measure to block indexing to carry out double catch-up indexing.
Another proposal tabled in this direction by Thomas Naessens (Ecolo) and co-signed by a socialist, for the commercial rent component was also taken into consideration urgently, shortly before the votes. Furthermore, parliament will also open the discussion on a proposal from the PTB (opposition) aimed at extending the freezing of rents for properties located in energy sieves.
The Secretary of State for Housing Nawal Ben Hamou (PS) had proposed such an extension to the government in vain, but within it, the Open Vld and DéFI were opposed to it. They argued that the initial measure was exceptional in the current context of the energy crisis and that the two other regions of the country refused to do so.
