The images are impressive. A four-story building, located on Avenue Houba de Strooper in Laeken, in the Brussels Region, collapsed this Friday. Fortunately, it was under construction and therefore unoccupied. “Two workers were present. They heard cracking noises and were able to get to safety just in time. We also evacuated neighboring houses,” said Walter Derieuw, fire brigade spokesman.
There were no casualties to report, and to ensure this, dog handlers intervened and removed any doubts. The Building located a few hundred meters from the King Baudouin Stadium housed a tavern well known to Brussels residents: Le Carlton.
The emergency services left the scene following midnight on the night of Friday to Saturday. “Monitoring of operations will be managed by the city of Brussels services, the owner, insurance companies and a contractor,” says the fire brigade spokesperson. The three neighboring houses have been declared uninhabitable for the moment. The cause of the collapse is still unknown.
