On May 7, 2024, Germany’s federal prosecutor’s office searched MEP Maximilian Kra’s office in Brussels. According to reports, the investigation is related to an associate of Kra, who has been arrested on charges of espionage for China.
At the office of the Alternative MEP for the Germany (AfD) Maximilian Kra in Brussels, an investigation is underway, following the arrest of his partner on suspicion of espionage for China, as broadcast by German public television ARD. The relevant permission from the European Parliament was given this morning (07.05.2024), at the request of the German authorities.
The investigation concerns 43-year-old Jan G. and not the MEP, who is nevertheless being examined as a witness in the case. He himself went to Germany from China in 2002, studied at the Dresden University of Technology and has received German citizenship.
With information from newsit, it is believed that the suspect was spying on Chinese dissidents in Germany and that he was giving information from European Parliament circles to the Chinese secret services. ARD also reported that a few years ago he had offered to work for the Federal Agency for the Protection of the Constitution as an informant, but was rejected and referred to the Agency’s local office in Saxony.
According to BILD newspaper, he worked there as an informant from 2007 to 2018. A year later he was hired by Maximilian Kra in his office in Brussels.
However, the MEP is at the same time targeted by the German authorities, who are investigating evidence of AfD political funding from Moscow.
