Is it soon the end of scooters parked “anywhere” on the sidewalks in Brussels? It is in any case the will of the Brussels government which must ratify, in mid-July, a series of more restrictive framework rules for self-service machines.

Called to enter into force on January 1, 2024, the regulation provides in particular for establishing the obligation of dropzones, i.e. a space specifically designated for picking up and dropping off a self-service scooter, to the entire regional territory. But nothing prevented the communes from moving forward without delay. This is the case of Saint-Gilles, which will switch to mandatory dropzones from July 1. “There will be 77 on the territory of the municipality”, explains Catherine Morenville (Ecolo), alderman for mobility in Saint-Gilles. “We have adapted the distribution according to the particularities of the municipality: the intermodality points with public transport, the places currently saturated by scooters…”
