Brussels Farmers Protest: Latest Updates and Demands from Angry Farmers in European Council

A new mobilization of farmers began this Tuesday in Brussels, on the sidelines of the European Council of Ministers of Agriculture and Fisheries. This is the third demonstration by angry farmers in the capital since the start of the year, following those of February 1 and February 26.

This new action, in which Fugea, the Federation of Young Farmers (FJA), the Walloon Federation of Agriculture (Fwa), the Support Network for Peasant Agriculture (RéSAP) and the European Coordination Via are participating, in particular Campesina should bring together some 300 tractors in the capital, Fugea is told.

A “symbolic action” is announced at rue de la Loi. The protesting farmers are expected from 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of rue de la Loi and rue du Taciturne, not far from the headquarters of the European Commission.

If they recognize some “advances” obtained since the start of their discontent movement several weeks ago, farmers continue to demand remunerative prices or the end of free trade agreements.

The recent proposals from the European Commission “are insufficient to tackle the root causes which have motivated the demonstrations of farmers throughout Europe for months”, estimates the European Coordination Via Campesina, of which Fugea is a member.
