Last Monday, a 19-year-old young man tried to kill himself by hanging with his t-shirt while he was in a cell at the Brussels Courthouse. If the hearing did not reveal anything abnormal, the first elements of the investigation and the judicial sources speak of a man who was very agitated when he reached his cell, so much so that they removed the laces from his shoes. .
However, following 15 minutes without surveillance, the police found the man when he had tried to commit the act by hanging himself with his t-shirt. The officers provided him with first aid while waiting for emergency services, who then transported the man to Saint-Pierre University Hospital. He has been there ever since, brain dead, and several sources tell us that he might be “unplugged” imminently.
However, there is no indication that the family in Morocco gave their consent for this, or even that she was found. The associative sector is in any case trying to contact her with the aim of organizing a repatriation of the body.
“In any case, he did not seem to be in psychological distress”
Yassine M.’s lawyer has very little information on his client’s situation. “When he came out of the courtroom, he smiled at me and shook my hand. In any case, he did not seem to be in psychological distress,” assures Me Jans, who considers his mandate to be over given that a judicial investigation was launched without his being involved.
Yassine M. appeared in court for a burglary followed by a rape in the center of Brussels at the beginning of November. The judge requested pre-trial detention. Without papers, Yassine M. was “one of the many boys wandering around the Gare du Midi”, adds his lawyer.
