Brussels: 1.5 tons of illegal medicines seized at airport

2023-09-06 14:06:00

Belgian authorities have seized a ton and a half of illegal medicines at Brussels airport. It was “one of the largest confiscations in the European Union in recent years,” said the Federal Agency for Drugs and Health Products (FAMHP) on Wednesday in Brussels. In cooperation with customs and a special investigation unit, the illegal drugs were discovered in a shipment of flaxseed in mid-July. The more than 1.6 million tablets are, for example, products that act as stimulants, antiepileptics or erection pills, among other things.

According to the FAMHP, a total of 2,138 postal packages containing illegal medicines were confiscated last year. However, the authority did not provide any information on how many tons it was in 2022.
