Appointments for the activation of ID Austria can be booked until September 15th at the ID Austria campaign days in the Austrian tax office

Vienna (OTS) The ID Austria is the further development of the mobile phone signature/citizen card and can be used in many ways by everyone over the age of 14 – in the future it will completely replace the mobile phone signature. To this end, the ID Austria days of action will now take place on the working days from September 4th to 15th in the offices of the Austrian tax office. Every Austrian citizen can register online at www.digitalaustria.gv.at or book an appointment by phone on 050 233 700 and register your own ID Austria. For this purpose, appointments are offered throughout Austria at the locations of the Austrian tax office.

“The Treasury was, is and will continue to be a pioneer when it comes to making things simpler, closer to the citizen and more digital. FinanzOnline is the best example of this. The more people can benefit from such services, the better. In order to make the registration of ID Austria as easy as possible, the Austrian tax office with its local offices is an excellent contact point,” said Finance Minister Magnus Brunner at the start of the ID Austria campaign days.

“With its around 200 digital applications, ID Austria is already making life easier for citizens both online and offline. For me, that is digitization with benefits. It received an award at the last eGovernment competition in Berlin, is recognized throughout Europe and we are currently working intensively on the next services for Austrians. I also recommend mobile phone signature users to take advantage of the offer at the offices of the Austrian tax office and to switch now. Because in the future, the mobile phone signature will be completely replaced by the ID Austria,” says State Secretary Florian Tursky on the Austrian tax office campaign.

As a secure digital identity, ID Austria enables online identification, digital ID services and the use of numerous digital offers. More than 200 applications are available in just a few steps, which you can do at home, and activation at the Austrian tax office. These include, for example, the digital driver’s license on the smartphone or the very simple access to FinanzOnline and many other e-government services. The highest safety standards are used in all applications.

Prepare your own smartphone at home
First of all, it is necessary to activate the fingerprint function (e.g. Touch ID) or face/iris recognition (e.g. Face ID) and to install the latest version of the “Digital Office” app. Online pre-registration can now be carried out on a PC, laptop or tablet. Either the document number of the identity card or the passport must be entered.

Necessary documents
A valid official photo ID (Austrian identity card or passport) and a current, printed passport photo are required.

What to do at the tax office
On site, during the registration process, you will receive a TAN on your smartphone, which must be communicated to the tax office employee. Then you only have to enter the signature password in the “Digitales-Amt” app and sign the signature request – when prompted. This completes the registration and the ID Austria is ready for use by the user.

Absolutely safe and fully recognized across the EU
The ID Austria has been recognized throughout the EU since 2023. With its numerous promising applications, it is also ready for the European developments of eIDAS (electronic identification, authentication and trust services) 2.0 (i.e. the EU wallet). It is also the first mobile eID at EU level for which the eIDAS security level “high” was accepted without reservation.

ID Austria as an excellent innovative technology
The “ID Austria” project won the gold medal on September 6, 2022 in Berlin at the award ceremony of the 21st eGovernment competition in the category “Best project for the use of innovative technologies and infrastructures 2022”. From the point of view of the jury, ID Austria is suitable “as a model for a Europe-wide digital identity”.

There are currently 1,253,000 (as of August 2023) active ID-Austria signatures in service.
