The deductible amount increases by 200 euros – from 2024 600 euros will now be deductible
Vienna (OTS) – Starting next year, Austrian taxpayers will be able to claim contributions to churches and religious societies of up to 600 euros as special expenses. The adjustment represents an increase of 200 euros compared to the previous deductible amount of 400 euros.
Churches in Austria play a central role in preserving Austria’s culture and traditions. In addition, they fulfill important social functions by providing a variety of social and community services that benefit all citizens. This change in the law means that the financial support of churches by citizens will be given even greater tax credit.
“Our churches have a long tradition of supporting society. They not only contribute to cultural and spiritual enrichment, but also make a valuable contribution to social cohesion. We recognize this important role and support the ongoing work and social contribution of the churches. From the assessment year 2024, there will be further tax recognition by increasing the deductibility of the church contribution from 400 euros to 600 euros,” said Finance Minister Magnus Brunner.
Education Minister Susanne Raab: “In the future, we will increase the maximum church tax deduction from 400 to 600 euros. This means that contributions to church and religious communities can be deducted from taxes up to a higher limit. In this way, we are taking an important measure to relieve the burden on believers in their contribution to church and religious communities in times of high prices and inflation, because faith can provide important support, especially in times of crisis.”
The change in the law must be applied for the first time in the assessment for the calendar year 2024.
