Bruins Goalie Jeremy Swayman Provides Contract Update

Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman is currently an unsigned and restricted free agent, as he is still negotiating a contract extension during free agency.

Jeremy Swayman was one of the most important players for the Bruins during his four years in the NHL daybut Boston risks losing its star before next season.

Speaking on an episode of the “Shut Up Marc” podcast this week, Swayman provided a positive update on his contract negotiations.

“If you had asked me that same question a year ago, I would have answered honestly,” Swayman told Marc Lewis.

“And I would say, ‘It’s scary. There’s a lot of resentment toward people who want you to succeed.’ And when you’re not rewarded for your endless efforts and for doing what you do best, it’s a nerve-wracking feeling because it’s your family you’re fighting for.”

Swayman elected arbitration last season, meaning the goalie would have signed with the Bruins on a one-year, $3.5 million deal. But Swayman opted against arbitration this year, meaning the 25-year-old can now negotiate a long-term deal with the franchise.

According to Boston, Swayman is seeking a $10 million per year contract with the Bruins, but the exact figure is not yet known as negotiations are still ongoing.

Swayman continued: “I know that these experiences I am having now will help me when, later in my career, I want to become a business manager.

“I think 10-year-old Jeremy Swayman never thought he’d be in this position and in this city, and the amount of gratitude I have for being in this situation completely covers the negative side of it all. I couldn’t be happier to be in this situation.”

The Boston goalie left his most important statement at the end of the interview, but he wanted to reassure Bruins fans by saying that, no matter what happens, he will remain with them in the future.

“Ultimately, I’m stopping pucks for the Boston Bruins.”

Swayman played 44 games for the Bruins in 2023-24, starting 43 and averaging 2.53 goals against throughout the season.
