Belgian club Cercle Brugge announced the death of its young goalkeeper, Miguel Van Dam, at the age of 28, after a journey suffering from leukemia.

The Belgian club said in a statement, Tuesday,: “We mourn with great sadness Miguel Van Dam, who fought a long battle against leukemia. Words are not enough to describe how we feel, although we knew that things were not going well, especially in the recent period.”

“Our thoughts go first to his wife Kiana, his daughter Camille, Miguel’s parents and his sister Francesca, but also to his friends and family,” he added.

Miguel Van Dam first discovered he had leukemia in 2016 during a routine medical examination, and was cured of the disease twice, before returning to it again, and more ferociously in 2020, until his death.
