A baby was reportedly burned to death by a faulty radiator in Brooklyn, United States, on January 19; the child’s father calls for people to be “held accountable.”
Officers responded to the family’s apartment around 6 a.m. and found the 11-month-old in a bedroom suffering from severe burns caused by a radiator that was leaking steam, according to police and the sources.
There were three children in the house at the time. Their mother was feeding one of them in another bedroom when she heard a loud noise coming from the child’s room.
The 11-month-old child was discovered fatally injured. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the New York Police Department said.
The heater may have malfunctioned, causing a dangerous steam leak, according to police and other sources.
According to the child’s aunt, Natalie Akselrod, the little boy had just taken his first steps in life.
“We have footage of him taking his first steps a day before this horrible tragedy happened,” she said from her home.
The family is, according to her, broken, and has “no intention” of returning to the apartment where the tragic accident occurred.
Alexander Kuravsky, the child’s father, told the New York Post that people need to be held accountable.
“Buildings, whether new or old, must be inspected carefully, consistently and honestly…And the only way to do that is through accountability,” he said .
He added that he still did not know “who exactly should be held responsible” for the 11-month-old’s death, “but there absolutely must be people held accountable because millions of people are living with steam radiators – and many of them also have children and babies inside their homes.”
