The women’s wheelchair fencing team finished its journey at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Para Games (APG) with two bronze medals.

The women’s saber team, consisting of Baek Kyeong-hye (Sports Grade A, KEPCO KDN), Jo Eun-hye (B, SK Eco Plant), Kwon Hyo-kyung (A, Hongseong County Office), and Jo Ye-jin (B, Kolon FNC), competed at the Hangzhou University of Electronic Science and Technology gymnasium in China on the 28th. In the 2022 Hangzhou APG Women’s Saber bronze medal match, they lost 29-45 to Hong Kong.

Korea, which lost 16-45 to Thailand in the semifinals and was sent to the bronze medal match, raised its hopes for the bronze medal with an early match against Hong Kong. In the second round, which was tied 0-5, Kwon Hyo-kyung saved the mood by scoring 10 points. However, the pace dropped sharply after the 5th round. In the last round, Kwon Hyo-kyung scored 7 points alone, but the score gap had already widened significantly. In the end, Korea lost 29-45 and stayed in 4th place.

The women’s wheelchair fencing team completed its trip to Hangzhou APG with the final saber team event on this day. Although there was no ‘golden stab’, two valuable bronze medals were obtained. Following the women’s epee team winning a bronze medal on the 26th, Eunhye Cho added a bronze medal in the B-grade saber individual event on the 27th.

The national team achieved valuable results with a different player composition than the 2018 Indonesian competition. Led by Cho Eun-hye, born in 1985, young players Baek Kyung-hye (23), Kwon Hyo-kyung (22), and Cho Ye-jin (20) teamed up to win two bronze medals in the first APG. He brightened his future by advancing to the semifinals in the Fleur and Saber team events. The desired results were achieved in generational change.
