The PACA region has now entered the epidemic phase for this respiratory disease which is worrying for children under 2 years old.

The number of visits to emergency rooms for children under 2 years old has doubled in one week, 528 passages the week of November 20 to 26, compared to 265 the previous week. Same thing for the number of hospitalizations: 180 two weeks ago compared to 90 the week beforespecifies the ARS.

A new preventive treatment

Since September 15, a new preventive treatment has existed to protect newborns from the most serious forms and thus avoid hospitalization. In PACA, 6,000 infants have already received this treatment, it’s a little more than 61% of children leaving maternity ward.

Adopt the right actions

The bronchiolitis virus is transmitted by saliva, coughing, sneezing, and the virus can remain on hands and objects, such as toys, pacifiers, comforters.

So to prevent contamination, it is recommended to adopt these good actions:

wash your hands before taking care of your baby wash your baby’s nose regularly with physiological serum ventilate your room every day, like the rest of the home, at least 10 minutes a day limit visits to very close adults and not -patients avoid frequenting confined public places (supermarkets, restaurants and public transport, etc.) and favor outings outdoors in the event of symptoms in parents or those close to them, wear a mask to take care of the baby
