Broke up in the tavern: Viennese beat his wife until she was hospitalized

A year and two months later, the woman asked the crane driver to a tavern, where she told him that she was in love with someone else. The man then became violent, which brought him to trial at the regional court for serious bodily harm with lasting consequences.

“I’m truly sorry. I can’t cope with the fact that there was violence,” said the defendant. His client had therefore undergone psychotherapeutic treatment “to prevent such a derailment from occurring once more,” emphasized defense attorney Roland Friis and submitted a corresponding confirmation.

The defendant explained to judge Christian Noe that his ex-girlfriend’s comments had “verbally affected him so much that I was no longer able to control it.” First he poured a glass of wine into the woman’s face, “which I also paid for have,” as the man emphasized. Then “far more happened than I might handle,” said the crane driver: “I reached forward and gave her a slap. I mightn’t stop it.”

Ruptured eardrum in left ear

The consequences were fatal. The 42-year-old caused a ruptured eardrum in the woman’s left ear. She has also suffered from tinnitus ever since and may need to undergo surgery to prevent hearing loss in the affected ear. The hearing was postponed to the beginning of April in order to question the woman as a witness and to discuss a specialist medical report obtained by the public prosecutor.
