A fatal car accident occurred in Broglio in the Maggia Valley early on Sunday morning. The 20-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle when he went off the road on a right-hand bend behind the village of Prato-Sornico. The car then crashed into a concrete post, according to the Ticino cantonal police.
The trapped driver from the Locarno region had to be rescued from the car with hydraulic pliers, but died on the spot as a result of his serious injuries. The two passengers, aged 18 and 15, survived with minor injuries. They also came from the region.
A care team was called in following the accident to provide psychological support, the police write. In addition to the police, the rescue service Salva, Rega and the Locarno fire brigade were deployed. Investigations are now trying to clarify why the driver lost control of the car.
