British send refugee girls (13) back to Ukraine
A girl fled to Great Britain with her sister before the war in Ukraine. But she was denied entry. Unbelievable: Now the 13-year-old should be sent back to her homeland.

As Putin’s troops rage in Ukraine, millions are fleeing. Nevertheless, the British Home Office refused entry to a girl (13). The reason: she was traveling without her parents. She applied for a visa with her sister (18). While being allowed into the country, the little sister was turned down. That means: The 13-year-old should be sent back to Ukraine – right in the middle of the war zone.
The case has sparked outrage in the UK. MP Tulip Siddiq (39) addressed the scandal directly to Prime Minister Boris Johnson (57) in the British House of Commons on Wednesday during the weekly question time. A resident of her constituency had attempted to assist both sisters in entering the country.
“These two sisters were placed in dangerous shelters in Montenegro for several weeks while the UK Home Office refused to apply for the younger sister’s application,” Siddiq said.
Johnson praises processing of visa applications
The MP asked the Prime Minister whether he supported such a policy of sending children at risk back to a war zone. Johnson instructed his Home Secretary Priti Patel (50) to take a closer look at the case.
At the same time, Johnson pointed out that visas had been processed quickly so far and praised the employees. “I have to say that this country’s record in processing well over 120,000 visas for Ukrainians is very commendable.”
Similar cases also occurred in Switzerland
But how are such cases actually regulated in Switzerland? Would such a case, as with the 13-year-old girl, also be conceivable in this country? No! Not according to the Swiss Asylum Act. Article 17 stipulates that asylum applications from underage asylum seekers must be given priority. They also have the right to a trusted person.
However, in the summer of 2016 there was a case in the Italian border town of Como that is very similar to that in Great Britain. At that time, underage asylum seekers were turned away by the Swiss border guard, even if they had family members in Switzerland and wanted to go to them. (ced)
