A 67-year-old Briton died following being accidentally seriously injured by rifle fire from her companion, who was taking part with other hunters in a wild boar hunt on Sunday in Goudelin, Brittany, western France, a we learned from a judicial source. According to the public prosecutor of Saint-Brieuc Nicolas Heitz, the author of the shot, aged 69, “in circumstances still to be determined” carried out a “shooting with his rifle which he was carrying at the shoulder, cannon pointing to the rear”, hitting his companion who had been invited to this hunt.
Seriously injured, the latter was transported to Saint-Brieuc hospital where she died at midday.
According to the prosecutor, the facts occurred during a wild boar hunt which brought together a dozen hunters in addition to two invited people.
“The hunters were progressing in a mowed cornfield” when the accident took place.
The shooter was taken into custody and taken to Guingamp hospital. “The doctor considered that his condition was not compatible with the measure which was therefore lifted,” explained Mr. Heitz, specifying that samples immediately taken “showed that he had not consumed alcohol, or toxic substances”.
