Pop star Britney Spears announced that she was pregnant a few months following ending a legal arrangement that gave her father guardianship and control over many matters in her life.
The singer told her 40 million followers on the social networking site Instagram that she is expecting a baby from her partner, Sam Asgari.
Spears, 40, who has two teenage sons, also revealed that she had suffered from depression during her previous pregnancy.
And last June, the famous singer told Al-Qadi that the guardianship imposed on her prevents her from marrying or removing contraceptives.
Britney Spears previously said she would like to build a family with Asgari, 28, who is a personal trainer.
But her legal guardianship, granted to her father at his request following the pop star suffered a mental health crisis in 2008, was such that it prevented her from making decisions regarding her health care.
In her challenge to legal guardianship in court last year, Spears said those legal measures included controlling her reproductive health.
“I’ve got[a contraceptive]inside me now, so I can’t get pregnant,” Spears said. “This team label won’t let me go to the doctor to have it removed because they don’t want me to have a baby.”
She added, “Therefore, I see that this guardianship harms me more than it benefits me.”
She continued, “I want to marry and have a child. I was told that now while I am under this guardianship, I cannot marry and have a child.”
Commenting on a photo she posted on Instagram, Spears said she would not “go out much” to avoid exposure to the paparazzi.
She also said that pregnancy this time might be “difficult” as she had earlier developed pregnancy depression – a medical term defined as depression that affects women anytime between conception and up to a year following giving birth.
She described this pathological condition as “very horrific”, stressing that she had not talked regarding it before because “some consider complaining of this type of disease during pregnancy to be very dangerous.”
But the singer – who has two children from her marriage to Kevin Federline – said she’s grateful that she doesn’t currently have to hide the pain.
