Britney Spears will publish her long-awaited memoir in October, two years following a court released her from a strict legal guardianship by her father that many viewed as abusive and exploitative. The book, titled “The Woman In Me,” will hit bookstores on October 24 from Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.
Its editor assured, in a statement that it is “a brave and amazingly moving story regarding freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith and hope.” “Written with remarkable candor and humor, Spears’ groundbreaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love, and the importance of a woman finally telling her own story, on her own terms.”
Spears rose to fame in her teens with hits like “Baby One More Time,” becoming one of the world’s biggest pop stars at the turn of the millennium.. But in 2007 she suffered a highly publicized nervous breakdown, which included attacking a paparazzi’s car at a gas station.
Guardianship of his father, Jamie Spears, began following that incident, in 2008.
The 41-year-old singer she lived for almost 14 years under the controversial legal regime that prevented her from managing her life and career, largely governed by her father. She has subsequently described how she was forced to work and tour, and has claimed that her phone was tapped.
In November 2021, a Los Angeles judge dissolved the conservatorship. In chilling testimony, The singer said that under guardianship, she was prevented from removing a contraceptive device despite her desire to have more children. “I just want my life back,” the pop star told the court in 2021.
Since being released, Spears has married her boyfriend Sam Asghari and collaborated on a song with Elton John.
