British writer Fay Weldon (91) passed away | Art & Literature

In her most famous book, The Lives and Loves of a She-Devil, published in 1983, Weldon tells the story of an unattractive woman who goes to extraordinary lengths to get revenge on her husband and his beautiful mistress. Weldon himself stated that the book, which is called ‘The Lives and Loves of a She-Devil’ in English, is regarding envy rather than revenge. In 1989 the book was made into a movie under the title ‘She-Devil’ with more Meryl Streep in the lead role.

Weldon’s book ‘Praxis’ was nominated for the prestigious Booker Prize in 1978 and made the shortlist. In 2001, Weldon was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her contribution to British literature.
