British workers submit motion of no-confidence in Johnson government

Britain’s main opposition party will propose a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government on Tuesday, with a vote expected on Wednesday, a Labor source said.

The no-confidence motion means lawmakers from all parties represented in Parliament can vote on whether the government, currently headed by Johnson, should continue in office. If the government loses the vote, it may lead to elections.

But the no-confidence vote is unlikely to succeed. With the Conservative Party lagging Labor in opinion polls and a leader election held, ruling party lawmakers are not expected to support a move that might bring voters back to the polls.

Johnson announced his resignation last week, following the resignation of more than 50 ministers and government aides in protest once morest his leadership, but he will continue to work until a new prime minister is elected in early September.

Labor said it would submit a no-confidence motion unless the Conservative Party moved to impeach Johnson before that date.
