A new musical show regarding the life and career of the legendary singer and musician Frank Sinatra (he died in 1998) will be launched on a stage in Birmingham, Britain, later this year, according to Archyde.com.
The performance of “Sinatra the Musical (Sinatra the Musical)” begins at the Birmingham Rep Theatre, on September 23, on the 70th anniversary of the tour of the singer “Kum Fly With Me (Come Fly With Me)” and “New York, New York” in the United Kingdom, which he sang during which in the same city, and will continue until October 28 (October).
The show opens with events on New Year’s Eve 1942 when Sinatra, as a young man (27 years old), took to the stage of the Paramount Theater in New York with a performance as the springboard to his success.
The producers said, in a statement regarding the show, that with his transformation into a famous music star, he “struggled to balance his love for his wife, Nancy, with the requirements and temptations of being the most popular singer in America.”
The musical recounts the impact of the late star’s relationship with actress Ava Gardner on his career, and how he made “the greatest comeback in the history of entertainment.”
“I feel so proud of the new musical offering, and I’m especially pleased that, for the first time, we’re going to introduce you to my dad from a perspective you’ve never seen before,” his daughter, Tina Sinatra, said in a statement.
The show was written by Tony Award-winning playwright Joe DiPietro.
“I grew up with two pictures hanging in my grandmother’s kitchen, one of the Pope, one of Frank Sinatra, so to sit with Tina Sinatra and hear stories no one knew regarding her father, and then be able to put those stories on stage makes me think I’m going to do a new musical,” Dipietro said. Unexpected and exciting. He added, “We will show you how the man became a legend, and how the legend was – in the end – a man.”
