A university student from the United Kingdom was apprehended at Los Angeles International Airport for allegedly attempting to smuggle 13 white T-shirts, which were soaked with methamphetamine, in a bold move to transport drugs across international borders.
Myah Saakwa-Mante, a 20-year-old student, faces serious charges including illegal drug possession with the intent to distribute, alongside other related allegations.
Prosecutors revealed that Saakwa-Mante was arrested on November 2 while trying to transport methamphetamine to Brisbane, Australia, according to a detailed criminal complaint obtained by Fox News Digital.
Customs officials discovered the illegal substances hidden inside her suitcase after she had checked in for her flight to Australia, as outlined in the criminal complaint.
The contraband was discovered caked into approximately 13 white T-shirts, which were concealed under the internal lining of her suitcase. According to prosecutors, the remaining quantities of methamphetamine had crystallized into a powdery form.
Officials tested the white powder, which yielded positive results for methamphetamine, confirming the illegal nature of the substance. The total weight of the T-shirts with the methamphetamine caked in was around 13 kilograms, translating to just under 30 pounds.
Saakwa-Mante was intercepted at her gate and questioned about her suitcase. During this interaction, she admitted ownership of the suitcase and stated she had purchased the T-shirts from Target, using Apple Pay, corroborated by her possession of receipts.
Saakwa-Mante explained that she was a university student residing in the U.K. and was merely visiting the U.S. for a brief two-day period before traveling to Australia to meet her boyfriend, whom she had never met in person. When questioned about the white powder present on the T-shirts, she claimed ignorance.
Following the interrogation, officers escorted her to the bag screening area, where they seized her two iPhones as part of the investigation before ultimately arresting her.
