British star claims Olympic athletes found a mark in the food in the participant village

Peaty, with six Olympic medals to his credit, criticizes both the quantity and quality of food on offer in Paris.

– The catering is not good enough considering the level the athletes are expected to perform at, says Peaty to The Independent newspaper on Tuesday.

– The food in Tokyo was incredibly good. Rio was amazing. But this time? There were not enough protein options, long queues, waiting 30 minutes for food because there was no queue system, he continues.

As part of the Games’ focus on sustainability, organizers have aimed to make 60 percent of all meals meat-free, but Peaty says it didn’t work for him.

– The narrative about sustainability is being pushed on the athletes. I want meat, I need meat to perform, and that’s what I eat at home, so why would I change? He says.

– I like fish, but people found their mark in the fish. It’s simply not good enough.

A spokesperson for the Olympic organizers in Paris responds to the criticism as follows:

– We listen to the athletes and take their feedback very seriously. Since the opening of the participant village, our partner Sodexo Live! worked actively to adapt the supplies to the increasing use of the restaurants in the Olympic Village, as well as to the actual consumption recorded among the athletes in the first days.

– As a result, the quantity of certain products has been significantly increased, and additional staff have been located there to ensure that the serving works, adds the person.
