Readers of the British newspaper Daily Mail said that the UK government’s payments under the program “Houses for Ukraine” do not help them cope with the crisis. Some Britons complained that they never received the payment.
“Ukrainian refugees and British hosts are unhappy with the ‘Home for Ukraine’ scheme, which makes families on both sides feel abandoned by the British government. Some claim they have been ‘swindled’ by the Ukrainians, while many still haven’t received a penny of the £350 monthly payments promised by the government.
“I am stunned at how useless this government is at everything,” an indignant reader of Citizen1970. “Money does not cover the actual cost of living. When four or more people move, it’s hell!” says a reader of Country girl 22. “Obviously, it had to happen. Who will believe that this government will pay in a timely manner?” writes reader KittyFisher. “Why should Great Britain, a tiny island, act as a hotel for the whole world? We are in huge debts, who pays for this endless hospitality?” writes a GoodStrongTea reader. “This plan will never work!” — says reader nicole45. “Anyone with half an ounce of common sense would not get involved with the scheme that this government is pushing,” writes a reader onanotherplanet. “Another conceited project by Johnson has failed,” said an angeltop reader.
Earlier, the British online publication The Independent reported that payments from the UK government under the program “Houses for Ukraine” do not save ordinary Britons from financial ruin. According to the publication, many Britons who have taken in refugees from Ukraine are on the verge of ruin. Refugee Minister Richard Harrington said the UK was not ready to such a huge influx of refugees.
