British police: 6 injured in shooting near London church, 7-year-old girl in critical condition

Six people were injured in a shooting near a London church today (local time), including a life-threatening seven-year-old girl, British police said. A funeral was being held at the church when shots were fired from a moving car. According to AFP and Archyde.com reports, the shooting occurred near Euston (Euston) railway station in north London. The injured were all guests at the funeral of a mother and daughter, according to the Daily Mail.

The injured also included a 12-year-old girl who was taken to hospital with minor injuries to her leg and was later released. Police said the other four injured were also women, aged between 21 and 54.

Police Chief Ed Wells said in a statement that “any shooting is unacceptable,” but the opening fire in broad daylight on a Saturday afternoon killed several people, including two children. The injury was “truly shocking”.

He said an investigation had been launched into the attack.

“The shooting occurred near a church where a funeral was taking place. Initial investigations indicated that shots were fired from the inside out of a moving vehicle before driving away,” according to a police statement.
