As a result of the dissatisfaction with the food served in the participating village, the British have brought in an extra cook. According to the English media, it is both the selection of food and the quality of what is served that is the reason why the spoon is now being taken into one’s own hand.
Andy Anson, head of British Olympic operations, says The Times that the food offer in the Olympic village “is not sufficient” and that “a dramatic improvement” is necessary.
– There is not enough of certain foods: eggs, chicken, certain carbohydrates, says Anson about the selection in which many Norwegian participants also take part.
– And then you have the quality of the food, with raw meat served to athletes, he added.
The British Olympic chief calls the food challenges “the biggest problem at the moment” and says the extra chef brought in will meet the demand that has arisen in the squad.
Some British athletes are also reported to have traveled to the squad’s other bases elsewhere in the French capital to get food and pick up packed lunches for dinner.
A spokesman for Team GB tells AFP on Friday that things are starting to look somewhat better in the participating village.
– The latest update is that we have an understanding that the situation is improving and is being taken care of by Paris 2024, he says.
The French sports newspaper L’Equipe on Wednesday quoted a company responsible for catering during the championship as saying they are aware of the problems in the village. That includes, among other things, the lack of eggs.
Efforts are reportedly being made to increase supplies.
