Howers said it had raised £10 million from a hedge fund and would hire several environmental and data recovery experts.
“Basically, we are a multi-talented team of experts from different disciplines,” he said. “If we work together, we will be able to complete this task.”
Howers estimates that it will take 9 to 12 months to find a hard disk in a dumpster.
However, The Guardian explained that there is no guarantee that his plan will succeed, and that he does not know if the bitcoins he mined years ago will be normally recovered from hard disks that have already been buried in garbage heaps for a long time.
Even worse, the Newport City Council did not approve his plan.
Howers has consistently expressed his willingness to use the recovered money for the community if his plan is successful, but the city council’s response has been lukewarm.
“One of our team’s plans is to clean up the dump and install a power plant there. We’re thinking regarding two wind turbines,” Howers said. We will build a facility,” he said.
