The attack on a Russian ammunition depot in the town of Toropets in the Tver region will impact Russian forces’ operations, particularly in the Kursk region.

Details: The review notes that the strategic ammunition depot in Toropets, located approximately 500 km from Ukraine, which was hit on the night of September 18, was one of the largest in Russia and contained more than 30 thousand tons of shells.

British intelligence believes the depot was damaged by improperly stored munitions, which remained vulnerable to drone strikes despite upgrades in 2018 following detonation incidents.
This caused “a chain reaction of cascading detonations in the bunker system, resulting in massive losses of ammunition,” the review said.
“Russian air defences continue to struggle to counter Ukrainian long-range strike operations, despite claiming to have intercepted more than 50 UAVs during the attack,” the UK MoD intelligence agency said.
They state that the strike on the warehouse “will most likely have a negative impact on Russian ground operations, especially in the Kursk region.”
Ukrainian sources reported that the warehouse in Toropets contained missiles intended for the Iskander operational-tactical missile systems, the Tochka-U tactical missile systems, KABs and artillery ammunition.
The Estonian General Staff announced yesterday that Russia had lost a huge amount of ammunition during the strike on Toropets will have an impact on the front in the coming weeks.
