Great Britain’s Defense Secretary Grand Shapps has announced that British soldiers might also be deployed to Ukraine for the first time. In an interview with the newspaper „The Telegraph“ Shapps said he had spoken to army leadership regarding it. According to its own information, Great Britain has already trained more than 20,000 Ukrainian soldiers on British soil since the beginning of 2022.
The talks were regarding the relocation of an official, British-led training mission for Ukrainian soldiers to Ukraine. So far, these trainings have taken place in the United Kingdom and at other locations in NATO countries, including Germany.
After a visit to Kiev last week, Shapps also said he had discussed with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky what role the British Navy might play in protecting cargo ships in the Black Sea. Russia canceled an agreement to export Ukrainian grain under the control of Turkey and the UN in July and threatened attacks.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg had previously ruled out relocating NATO troops to Ukraine. With Britain’s plans, the defense alliance would move away from this position.
Shapps isn’t just thinking regarding training missions. “Particularly in the west of the country, I think there is an opportunity now to do more things in the country, and not just education,” he told the Telegraph. The British aerospace and defense company BAE has relocated some of its production to Ukraine. “I’m keen for other UK companies to also play their part by doing the same.”

10:15 a.m. – Ukrainian grain leaves land via Black Sea ports
According to data, five ships are on their way to the Ukrainian Black Sea ports to load grain and other agricultural products from there. This is according to data from the MarineTraffic website. In addition, three cargo ships left the ports following loading. According to Ukrainian information, they are supposed to bring 127,000 tons of agricultural products and iron ore to China, Egypt and Spain.
In August, Ukraine announced a so-called humanitarian corridor in the Black Sea through which cargo ships that have been stuck since the start of the war in February 2022 will leave Ukrainian ports. A de facto blockade exists because Russia suspended the agreement that guaranteed the safe passage of such freighters carrying Ukrainian grain in July. This blockage should be bypassed through the corridor.

US President Joe Biden quickly called for further support for Ukraine following the US Congress voted to avert a government shutdown.
