He explained that in light of this potentially dangerous clash, he had communicated his concerns directly to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, and to Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov.

Ben Wallace added that the patrols over the Black Sea stopped until receiving a response from the Russian side, noting that on October 10, Britain received a response from the Russian Defense Minister that an investigation was conducted into the circumstances of the accident and it was confirmed that there was a technical malfunction in the Su-27 fighter.
