Meta has produced the world’s most versatile AI speech generation tool called Voicebox.

But the company will not make its AI model public, due to serious concerns regarding the potential risks of misuse of advanced technology.

In recent months, scammers have become adept at using AI-generated speech to commit horrific crimes, as happened last April in Arizona, where scammers claiming to have kidnapped a teenage girl called her mother and heard realistic audio appeals in her daughter’s voice, made with artificial intelligence.
Meta identified a variety of ways to use this technology, as it is used to help the visually impaired hear messages from their friends and loved ones, or to allow speakers to play translations of their words, by voice, from their own language into another foreign language.

The company stated that its artificial intelligence model is able to speak six living languages, which are English, French, Spanish, German, Polish and Portuguese.
Meta also provided some business use cases for this technology, and also used it to create voices for more realistic characters in video games.
The company said in a press release that this technology is not yet available to developers who are eager to use it, according to the British Daily Mail. ,
