British conductor Jan Latham-Koenig has been charged with sexual offenses once morest a minor. The 70-year-old was arrested on Wednesday at London’s Victoria train station and a day later charged with “appointing and aiding and abetting a sexual offense once morest a child and sexual communication with a child,” the London police said on Friday.

On Friday, Latham-Koenig appeared in court for a hearing. At the appointment he only confirmed his identity. He was released on bail pending his next appearance in February.

In his long career, Latham-Koenig has conducted the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and BBC ensembles, among others. He was also artistic director of the New Opera in Moscow. In 2020 he was honored by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to cultural relations between Great Britain and Russia.
