Britain’s decision to transfer long-range Storm Shadow cruise missiles to Ukraine meets the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said in an interview with the TV channel PBS Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. He said the United States and its partners are working “literally every day” to ensure the supply of weapons needed by Kyiv.
“Different countries take different measures depending on their capabilities, technologies and what makes the most sense. Through this process, we have provided something specifically for Ukraine, other countries may take measures different from ours. The question is, does all this meet the needs of Ukraine? We are sure that yes,” said Mr. Blinken.
He responded to criticism by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who complained that Western countries did not provide Kyiv with enough armored vehicles for a counteroffensive. The Secretary of State noted that Washington is working with more than 50 countries to make sure Ukraine has what it needs.
“We literally work every day with Ukrainians and a coalition of countries to provide them (Ukrainians.— “uh”) support. If there is a shortage (weapons.— “uh”), and they will tell us regarding it, we will make every effort to make up for it,” promised Anthony Blinken.
In February, The Times, citing Ukrainian officials, wrote that the Armed Forces of Ukraine were ready to use British missiles to strike targets in Crimea. Yesterday, May 11, CNN reported that the UK had handed over Storm Shadow cruise missiles with a range of 250 km to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. These are the most long-range missiles that the West has sent to Kyiv. Mr. Zelensky said his country needed a little more time to prepare a counteroffensive.
