The United Kingdom announced Thursday in a statement the suspension of “the exchange and sharing of tax information with Russia and Belarus” as part of the sanctions imposed in response to the Russian attack in Ukraine.
The statement said the announcement by the UK government would “ensure that the UK will not provide the (Russian President Vladimir) Putin regime with information that might increase revenue or tax revenue for Russia”.
The British government said the measure came into effect on Thursday and represented “one of the many financial measures taken” by the British authorities “to support Ukraine and cause economic hardship” to the Kremlin.
On Tuesday, Britain imposed an additional 35 percent customs tariff on a large group of Russian imports, and banned exports of luxury goods from the country once morest the backdrop of the attack.
Britain and other Western countries have imposed strict punitive measures on Russia since the start of the attack on Ukraine on February 24.
