Police sources inform Sky News that they have information about over 100 planned right-wing radical demonstrations on Wednesday evening, as well as 30 counter-demonstrations.
Out of 43 police districts in England and Wales, the police are steeling themselves for demonstrations in 41 of them, the broadcaster reports.
Over 6,000 specially trained police officers have been brought in in anticipation of possible violence and riots in connection with the demonstrations.
Posts on the internet claim that asylum centers and law firms that assist migrants are the targets of tonight’s demonstrations, according to Reuters. In response, anti-racist and anti-fascist groups have organized counter-demonstrations in a number of cities.
The government has also introduced measures to protect mosques around the UK, including in London.
After more than a week of riots, more than 400 people have been arrested in connection with the unrest, which was triggered by the knife murder of three young girls in Southport in northern England.
The police blame the violence on supporters of the anti-immigration far-right organization English Defense League. The riots are the worst in Britain for 13 years.
