Around 80 Dutch stores of fashion and footwear chain Bristol are set to close, Lore Vanaudenhove, head of marketing at parent company Euro Shoe Group, confirmed in articles published in Het Nieuwsblad and De Tijd.

Two candidates have come forward in Belgium to seek a possible partial rehabilitation. If this can be achieved, “Around 70 Belgian stores and some head office staff will be taken over“The manager said.”For the Dutch store, no buyer has yet been found.

Het Nieuwsblad wrote on Tuesday that two potential buyers have offered to buy the Belgian stores. The first candidate wants to take over 62 of Bristol’s 115 Belgian stores. This would save around 150 jobs. The candidate also wants to keep 13 employees at the Beringen headquarters, meaning 157 jobs there are at risk of being eliminated.

A second potential buyer is interested in a dozen other stores in Bristol. Lore Vanaudenhove also confirmed the news.

In the Netherlands, about 400 employees still work in Bristol, according to the marketing manager.

The retail company has been struggling for months with the consequences of the coronavirus health crisis and reduced purchasing power, with sales falling sharply in the second half of last year.
