LINZ. At the BRISK ensemble competition for early music at the Anton Bruckner Private University, a jury honored the ensembles “Seyltanz”, “Iris Consort” and “Rozeta” as the best ensembles. As part of the “Old Music in the Castle” series, the award winners can be seen again with their historical instruments on June 7th in the Castle Museum in Linz. Another prizewinner concert will take place on August 21, 2023 in the series “Evening music in the Ursulinenkirche”.
Every spring, the ABPU’s Institute for Early Music and Historical Performance Practice organizes a chamber music competition with BRISK. Six student ensembles took part in the competition this year and presented chamber music of their choice from the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical eras on their historical instruments.
The jury, consisting of Linde Brunmayer-Tutz, the sponsors Peter Schmid and Sigrid Viehweg, Michael Oman and four teachers from the Institute for Early Music and Historical Performance Practice at the ABPU, awarded the ensemble “Seyltanz” first prize. The ensemble, consisting of Lena Obexer, Jennie-Marie Wszolek, Anna Schiffkorn, Julia Willeitner, Adriaan Lauwers and Andreas Stöger, presented works by Antonio Bertali, Giovanni Felice Sances and Johann Heinrich Schmelzer. The 2nd prize went to the ensemble “Iris Consort” and the ensemble “Rozeta” was awarded the 3rd prize.
Concerts in Linz
In addition to the award and the prize money donated by sponsors and the L’Orfeo Baroque Orchestra, the prizewinners also have the unique opportunity to organize concerts in Linz. As part of the event series “Old Music in the Castle” on Wednesday, June 7, at 7:30 p.m., the prizewinners’ concert “BRISK – NEW GENERATION” will take place in the Baroque Hall of the Castle Museum in Linz. Another concert by the award winners will take place on August 21 at 8 p.m. in the series “Evening Music in the Ursulinenkirche”.
