We must “do everything” to ensure that an NHL franchise returns to Quebec, since it is “the only solution” that would allow the City to avoid having to reimburse the rent of the Videotron Center to QMI Spectacles, year following year.

At least that’s what city councilor Mélissa Coulombe-Leduc, who is part of Mayor Marchand’s political party, launched Tuesday followingnoon during the city council.
“We have to do everything so that there is a National League franchise that ends up settling at the Videotron Centre. This is the only solution I see to put an end to this situation, ”she argued.
Open the agreement, claims Mélançon
Again this year, the City of Quebec had to reimburse $ 2.75 million to QMI Spectacles as a “contribution to the operating deficit” for the year 2022.
The decision-making summary that provides for this reimbursement was widely voted on by the Quebec city council, despite the opposition of the two elected members of Équipe Priorité Québec (EPQ).
Stevens Mélançon, adviser to EPQ, asked for the “opening of the agreement” for 25 years – signed in 2011 – and by which Quebecor became manager of the amphitheater inaugurated in 2015.
“We have no details why QMI is in deficit despite the Remparts, despite the shows and events. This is not normal, ”lamented Mr. Mélançon.
For his part, Claude Villeneuve, head of Quebec first, did not claim that the 2011 agreement be opened once more. That said, the latter recalled that, from the start, the business model was planned for two scenarios: one with the NHL and the other without the NHL. Mr. Villeneuve insisted that the last scenario, without the NHL, is “difficult to make profitable”.
