The series in the Eastern Conference continue to be characterized by great excitement and balance. So also on Sunday in Boston in game four once morest Carolina. First, the Hurricanes took the lead twice more: Brett Pesce (15) and Jordan Staal following just 33 seconds in the second third each presented for the guests. Patrice Bergeron equalized in the meantime (17th).

Raanta, DeBrusk and a controversial goal

The key scene was the controversial goal to make it 2-2 just 76 seconds before the end of the second period. After the puck seemed buried under Hurricanes keeper Antti Raanta, then poked out including contact with the goalie and finally carried over the goal line by Jake DeBrusk, Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour decided to “challenge” the goal via video – to have the referees revoke the decision.

However, the referees did not see any foul play, so not only did the goal count, but Brind’Amour also had to accept a two-minute penalty for delaying the game for the failed challenge. To make matters worse for the visitors, Sebastian Aho then hit Bergeron in the face with the stick, bleeding the Bruins captain and earning another four-minute penalty.

Double marchand to victory

Boston used the double advantage at the beginning of the second period to score 3: 2 by Brad Marchand. Then David Pastrnak (46th) and finally Marchand once more made it 5:2 with 35 seconds to go into an empty goal. Double goalscorer Marchand also had three assists and was directly involved in all five of his team’s goals. And so it continues with the series tie in game five (Wednesday, 1 AM EST) back in Raleigh.

Remarkable: Boston had to do without their top defender duo Charlie McAvoy and Hampus Lindholm (both injured) in the game.
