Evan Ferguson is heading to the London Stadium. The Republic of Ireland striker has joined West Ham United on a six-month loan deal, reuniting him with former Brighton & Hove Albion manager Graham Potter.
this move comes after a frustrating season marred by ankle injuries for Ferguson. He has managed only two Premier League starts for Brighton under manager Fabian Hurzeler,who has favoured other attackers,including Danny Welbeck,Georginio ruttner,and João Pedro.
“Evan has had a frustrating 12 months with injuries, and for him to get back to the level he’s capable of and to continue his development, he really needs to be playing regularly,” Hurzeler said. “This loan gives him that opportunity, and under a manager he knows well. We are looking forward to watching Evan’s progress over the next few months, and we wish him well.”
Ferguson’s potential was evident before these setbacks. He joined Brighton from Bohemians in 2021, and his form in the 2022-23 season led to estimates of his value soaring to £100 million after a sensational hat-trick against Newcastle in September 2023.
Despite his talent, the arrival of Greek striker stefanos Tzimas from Nuremberg adds further competition for places at Brighton. The Seagulls have signed Tzimas for a reported €24 million.
“Stefanos is an exceptional young talent, an out-and-out center-forward with a natural ability to score goals,” Hurzeler said. “He will join up with us this summer, ahead of next season.
While Ferguson missed West Ham’s London derby clash with Chelsea, he is expected to make his debut against Brentford this weekend. Potter is facing an injury crisis in attack with niclas Füllkrug, Michail Antonio, and jarrod Bowen all unavailable.
