Bright meteor lights up skies over Puerto Rico

A new sighting of a bright meteor occurred at regarding 8:01 pm yesterday.

The Caribbean Astronomy Society (SAC) confirmed that it was an “Ophiuchid”, a meteor that came from the Ophiuchus constellation.

The educational entity explained in written statements that the “Ophiuchids” are a slight meteor shower that would be recorded until today, Saturday.

The SAC had anticipated that during this year 2022, several bright meteors would be visible because as part of the path of our planet, as it orbits the sun, the Earth would be passing through areas with some particles somewhat larger than on other occasions.

In the case of the “Ophiuchids” the organization had captured several of these bright meteors on June 18, as well as the one on the night of Friday, July 1.

On the other hand, another bright meteor was also visible from Puerto Rico on June 29, although on that occasion it was a sporadic meteor.

“We have to continue looking at the sky from time to time, since nature will give us another one at any moment,” the SAC concluded.
