A bright meteor, which even lit up the clouds, crossed various areas of Puerto Rico around 11:45 pm on Saturday.
The Caribbean Astronomy Society (SAC) captured images of the fast meteor and explained that both the witnesses who observed it, as well as one of the SAC’s color cameras, perceived that the meteor showed a somewhat greenish color, which suggests it was It was a space rock with metallic content.
The bright meteor was visible looking north and its trajectory moved even further towards the north of the island, so the possibility that some fragment reached the mainland was ruled out, since it must have survived the fragmentation from somewhere. have occurred over the Atlantic Ocean.
The SAC stressed that it was a fairly fast meteor and clarified that precisely the high speed observed suggests that the meteor is not related to the possible intense meteor shower that might perhaps occur late on Monday night, since the “Tau Herculids” are slower meteors.
The educational entity explained that some of the images were obtained by a monochrome camera, and that is why in some sequences the meteor is seen without color, while in others the meteor shows a green color, and with the trail briefly orange. “It should be noted that the trail remained visible even for several seconds followingwards,” the SAC indicated.
The organization that has put thousands of people to look at the sky pointed out that this event is one more reason for us to take a look at the sky more often.
