**Interview with Antonio Guterres: A Call for Global Peace**
**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Mr. Guterres. You recently spoke at the BRICS meeting in Kazan, where you emphasized the urgent need for peace in several regions, including the Gaza Strip. Could you elaborate on why you believe an immediate ceasefire is essential at this time?
**Antonio Guterres:** Thank you for having me. The situation in Gaza is dire. An immediate ceasefire is crucial not only to stop the loss of life but also to create a space for humanitarian aid to reach those in desperate need. The humanitarian crisis is worsening every day, and we must prioritize the well-being of civilians above all else.
**Editor:** Your call for peace extends beyond Gaza. You also highlighted the need for peace in Lebanon and Ukraine. What parallels do you see between these conflicts?
**Antonio Guterres:** Each of these conflicts is marked by deep-rooted issues and prolonged suffering. In Lebanon, we need to reinforce the existing resolutions, such as Security Council resolution 1701, to prevent further hostilities. Similarly, in Ukraine, a just and sustainable peace must adhere to international law and uphold the principles of the United Nations Charter. These conflicts, while distinct, all demand a commitment to dialogue and peaceful resolution.
**Editor:** You also addressed the importance of the two-state solution regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Can you share your vision for how this could be achieved?
**Antonio Guterres:** The two-state solution remains the most viable path to achieving lasting peace in the region. It requires relentless efforts toward diplomacy and negotiation, ensuring both Israeli and Palestinian aspirations are acknowledged and met. It’s imperative to end the occupation and foster an environment where both peoples can coexist peacefully and securely.
**Editor:** you raised the situation in Sudan and the need for defending the values of the UN Charter. What steps do you believe are necessary to address the ongoing crisis there?
**Antonio Guterres:** In Sudan, we must rally international support to protect human rights and uphold the rule of law. It’s essential to advocate for political dialogue among all stakeholders to restore stability. The international community has a role to play in supporting Sudanese efforts towards peace and democratic governance.
**Editor:** Thank you, Mr. Guterres, for your insightful comments and for your continued efforts toward global peace.
**Antonio Guterres:** Thank you for having me. Together, we can work towards a safer world for all.
