Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman will not play against the White Sox with a right elbow injury that an MRI showed showed no structural damage.

Bregman underwent an MRI on Friday that showed no structural damage, and the team decided not to place the veteran on the injured list for now.
The club is expected to call up infielder Shay Whitcomb from Triple-A Sugar Land, the Houston Chronicle reported. The 25-year-old, a fifth-round pick in 2020, has yet to make his major league debut and is batting .293 with 25 homers and 91 RBIs in 108 games at Triple-A.
Bregman, 30, is hitting .261 this season with a .764 OPS that is the lowest of his nine-year career. He has 19 homers and 59 RBIs in 116 games.
Bregman, a two-time All-Star and career .273 hitter, has 184 homers and 647 RBIs in 1,082 games, all with the Astros.
In first place in the American League West, the Astros will host a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox after the White Sox leave town.
