Hope for Cancer Patients. Doctors at one of the largest US cancer centers are apparently on the verge of a breakthrough.

City of Hope researchers have been working on a pill to fight cancer for a long time, and it appears they are on the verge of a breakthrough. The drug of hope bears the unwieldy name AOH1996 and, according to a recent study, is effective once morest 70 (!) types of tumors.

The drug once morest cancer takes on the protein PCNA, which can be imagined as a kind of circuit breaker for our cells. However, there is also a carcinogenic variant of the protein. In the latter case, it wraps itself around the cells, allowing uncontrolled growth – cancer.

The cancer pill appears to work on all solid tumors

As tests on more than 70 types of cancer now show, the AOH1996 pill apparently destroys all solid tumors. For example, breast, prostate, ovarian, skin and lung cancer might be treated in this way.

The pill is intended to ensure that the tumor does not continue to grow and affect other organs. What is special regarding AOH1996 is that it leaves healthy cells unharmed. In addition, most current therapies focus on a single signaling pathway, which allows cancer cells to mutate and develop resistance. AOH1996 circumvents this problem.

Drug still needs to be tested extensively

The drug is currently still in the clinical phase 1 study and still has to be extensively tested, primarily on humans, but – and physicians agree on this – the cancer pill has considerable potential.
