Breakthrough at R22: Wisła – Ruch 3:1

Breakthrough at R22: Wisła – Ruch 3:1

Monday evening will be marked by the Friendship Match between Wisła Kraków and Ruch Chorzów. The match has just ended and this time the team from Wawel turned out to be better, winning the match with the result 3:1. The goals for Wisła were scored by Angel Rodado (two) and Olivier Sukiennicki.

The first minutes of the match were a textbook example of a “action for action” fight. On the Wisła side, Alan Uryga tried a technical shot from outside the penalty area, and Konczkowski, who headed the ball from the penalty area line, stopped him from scoring. Ruch repeatedly crossed the ball, and the most dangerous action in the first quarter of an hour was performed by Kozak, who with a strong shot from a distance tested the disposition of Chichkan, who was returning between the posts.

The match played with great support was still very intense. The Blues scared with a dangerous free kick attempt, while the Wisła players, working well in the middle zone, maintained possession for long moments in Jakub Szymański’s penalty area. After half an hour of play, however, we still had no opening on the scoreboard.

Before the break, it was possible to indicate a slight advantage of the guests from Chorzów, who were effectively stopped from hitting the net by our goalkeeper after a combination play of a set piece. However, the added time belonged to the White Star. First, Sukiennicki sent a warning to the visitors’ defense, hitting the left post. In the next – the last, as it turned out later – action of the half, Angel Rodado was already merciless, cutting through a perpendicular pass from Marc Carbó and scoring the proverbial goal for the locker room. It was 1:0 and we were already waiting for another 45 minutes of sporting excitement!

Maintain the advantage

Ruch Chorzów resumed the match in a not-so-great way. Filip Starzyński committed a heavy foul in front of the hosts’ bench, for which, after consulting the VAR, referee Przybył showed him a red card. It was the 50th minute and the players playing in blue had to chase the result from now on with a 10-man line-up. Coach Janusz Niedźwiedź had to quickly adjust the plan for this match, which, as it soon turned out, he did effectively.

The visitors did not retreat and despite being weakened, they pressed Wisła players hard. After a corner kick taken by them, the ball left the penalty area and fell straight to Szymon Szymański’s feet. He found the goal with a powerful shot from a considerable distance and equalized the score at 1:1. The clock was then ticking down to 57 minutes.

The visitors, trying to manage their forces wisely, retreated, trying to defend a result that was favourable in these circumstances. Playing too deep in defence was punished, however – in the “16th” the closing attack of Carbó fell, for which the referee awarded a penalty. After a long break to check the controversial situation, VAR upheld the original decision, and Rodado took the shot. The Spaniard had a chance to double and made no mistake, although the goalkeeper was close to clearing his shot. From the 75th minute, the White Star returned to the lead 2:1!

Angel also scored a third time, but in the build-up phase the linesman saw an offside position in Zwoliński, who had been introduced earlier. The result of the match at R22 was still close, and the referee signalled 10 additional minutes to the game. At the very end, in the 99th minute, Olivier Sukiennicki finally set the score at 3:1, with a nice shot to end the exchange of passes on the right side of the pitch. In this way, Wisła Kraków closed the 4th round of league matches with a full set of points.
