Heinz will install ketchup dispensers on the streets of Chicago in an unusual hope of circumventing a tradition that pushes restaurateurs not to serve the condiment to their customers.

According to local tradition, true Chicagoans do not eat ketchup and it is to honor this tradition that many Chicago restaurants refuse to serve ketchup in their establishments.

The Heinz company, famous for its ketchup, decided to remedy this situation by installing ketchup dispensers in the street to serve the “silent majority” who secretly love this condiment.

The company is now installing billboards dispensing ketchup outside two city restaurants known for refusing to offer the condiment, the Chicago Sun Times.

The first two dispensers will be installed in front of the Weiner Circle restaurant as well as another hot dog establishment, known for their almost religious adherence to Chicago’s anti-ketchup tradition, according to several local media.

“Heinz knows that Chicago has a complicated relationship with ketchup… However, nearly four in five people (88%) prefer Heinz ketchup when eating out, so for many Chicagoans, nothing “It’s more frustrating than being in a restaurant without it,” the company told NBC Chicago in a statement.

Heinz also plans to take on other businesses that refuse to serve ketchup by installing these billboards and launching an app allowing users to report such establishments.
